This course is dedicated to familiarising students with the fathers (using traditional classifications) and to introduce patristic thought. Special care is taken to display a wide variety of texts and forms of patristic literature, highlighting characteristics and features.

Contextual studies that revolve around the historical, political, social and linguistic backgrounds of the various literary genres/forms of the Old Testament (and their structures) as well as their manuscripts, providing students with an excellent overview of the books, forming the framework for exegesis in later units. Other issues are raised such as its Canon and the history of its formation. Theological themes in the books will be briefly touched on
الدراسات السياقيَّة التي تدور حول الخلفيات التاريخيَّة والسياسيَّة والاجتماعيَّة واللُغويَّة لمختلف الأنواع / الأشكال الأدبيَّة للعهد القديم (وهياكلها) بالإضافة إلى مخطوطاتها، مما يوفر للطلاب نظرة عامة ممتازة على الأسفار، وتشكل إطارًا من أجل منهجية التفسير في الوحدات اللاحقة. وقد أثيرت قضايا أخرى مثل القانونيَّة وتاريخ تشكيلها. سيتم التطرق بإيجاز إلى الموضوعات اللاهوتيَّة في الأسفار أيضًا.

Students will form a foundational understanding of the basics of the Orthodox doctrine as they become acquainted with the various dogmas of the Church from a Biblical and patristic perspective. Theological terminology is introduced.
